What's better than a watchtower to admire the beauty of a stretch of water and appreciate its tactical aspects? The Linguella watchtower erected in 1548 overlooks the bay of Portoferraio on the island of Elba, where the CNB owners were holding their rally. Welcomed on the magnificent terrace for their first evening on the island, buffet and cocktails awaited them at the heart of a unique Roman archaeological site. This has been the way since 2009: each year, the CNB yacht builders' teams invite the owners to sociable rallies combining festivities, good humour and sailing. For a successful Rendez-Vous, you need motivated crews - there were 87 participants this year - and a choice setting. The island of Elba, the jewel of the Tuscan archipelago, renowned as the location of Napoleon’s exile, enchanted all the participants with the beauty of its shores.
After Friday night’s feast, it was time for the sailing! Saturday was a pleasant day of racing between the islet of Scoglietto and Cape Enfola. Enough wind to complete the two Incidence Sails and North Sails courses, sunshine, some coastal effects… everyone could make the most of their yacht’s qualities and fine-tune their settings.
A change of scene in the evening: an escort in Napoleonic costume awaited the crews to guide them to the magnificent Piazzale de Laugierand its 16th century convent. Steeped in history, this public square, closed to the public for the occasion, was conducive to contemplation and epicureanism following a meal with Mediterranean flavours. Finally, an orchestra and a talented singer, the daughter of a great Italian tenor, accompanied the guests until the magnificent Piazzale de Laugier was transformed into a pyrotechnic theatre to celebrate together, as a family, the 10th anniversary of CNB Rendez-Vous!
Back to the water on Sunday, where the race on the Volvo course brought to an end the nautical component of this Rendez-Vous. A hard-fought leg, as the classification changed with each rounding of a buoy! At the day’s end, the awards ceremony could be held. ALOHA, a CNB 77 (one-off), received the prix de l’élégance for crew and boat. NUVOLARE, a CNB 66, received the "Briand Award", awarded by the naval architect in person, whose prestigious design signature is inseparable from the CNB saga and vice versa. The evening was also an opportunity to congratulate the big winners on the water. For the under 70-footers, the podium consisted of ALTHANE, the winning CNB 66, followed by MR BEELZEBUTH, a Bordeaux 60, then CRIOLLOS, another Bordeaux 60. Among the over 70-footers, the trophy went to Bélé (CNB 76) followed by Aloha (CNB 77) and Nou Horitzo (CNB 76).
Congratulations and thank you to all the participants, as well as to our partners Incidence Sails, North Sails, Volvo, Thiénot, the port of Portoferraio and the whole island of Elba for having celebrated with flair this 10th edition of the CNB Rendez-Vous!
